Flying Home - New Addition

Hello, Crafters.

I hope you've enjoyed a great weekend.

Yesterday I had a play with the Flying Home Stamp Set, and, unusually for me, had two ideas for cards.

Today I'm sharing my new little one idea, and hopefully tomorrow I'll share the second idea I have!

I decided to make Pool Party my card base colour with a layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) and a top layer of Pool Party CS.

I dry embossed the up layer with the Simple Stripes Embossing Folder, which works brilliantly everytime now that I have put two pieces of our Vellum CS inside the folder!

I stamped the image of the bird in the nest with the chicks, using Basic Black Archival Ink on Whisper White CS.

I placed the largest circle Stitched Shape Framelits Die over the image to see if I could stamp the two individual birds to include them in the circle, otherwise I thought there would be too much white space!

With the top bird I was able to stamp him with the circle die still in-situ, but it was more of an effot with the bird that looks as if he's walking rather than flying!

I hovered the block over the area where I needed to stamp the image, but I needed to move the circle away.

To achieve this, I memorised what I could see around the block, moved the circle away, inked up the stamp, and went for it, relying on my memory!

I coloured the nest using my Crumb Cake Marker Pen, making sure I went over certain areas two or three times to create some shading.

Next I used my Soft Suede Marker Pen for the branch, but I couldn't achieve any shading as it's such a dark colour anyway.

For the leaves I used Emerald Envy, again a dark colour but I left white areas by colouring around the outside lines twice, and then colouring over the centres just once.

For the beaks I used my Daffodil Delight Marker Pen and my Pool Party Marker Pen for all the birds.

Shading was easy for the three older birds by going over the wings, tail and breast two or three times to make these areas darker.

All in all I found the colouring very relaxing, and very satisfying!

I replaced the circle die, cranked it through the Big Shot, and was pleased with the overall positioning of the three images.

I put the sentiment together by taking the CONGRATULATIONS from the Inspired Events Stamp Set, and the ON YOUR NEW LITTLE ONE from the Amazing Congratulations Stamp Stamp Set.

To me, both parts of the sentiment looks as if they are the same font!

I was really pleased how well they matched each other for size, too!

Using Pool Party Ink, I stamped them on a strip of Whisper White CS that was wide enough to go across the width of my card, as well as a space at both ends for me to adhere a Petal Passion Embellishment using Tombow.

Next I adhered the card layers together using Tombow, and then the Paper Doily on the front towards the top.

I put the image and the sentiment on with Dimensionals. Inside the card, I adhered a layer of Whisper White CS, and stamped two flying birds and one walking bird in the bottom right-hand corner.

I coloured them with Marker Pens in exactly the same way I did the birds on the front of the card.

I'm pleased with the finished result and looking forward to creating my second idea!

That's it from me today. I hope you have a lovely Monday and until tomorrow, happy crafting,

JanB.

  2. I love the card!! I really love the pastel colors. I passed on this stamp set but I think I need to reconsider. So much flexibility with this SRT with other stamps also. My brain was working out some possibilities!! Thank you for sharing yet another gorgeous project. I love all of them. Our taste in cards is much the same. Have a beautiful day and God bless, Jan!

    1. Hi, Jan. Like you I prefer pastel colours too. I have another card to share tomorrow with this stamp set, but I can't come up with an idea for the third image - so this stamp set gets put away for a little while! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.
