More playtime with Washi Tape

Hello, Crafters.

Apart from writing the instruction sheets for today's three class projects, I'm all prepared and ready to go with today's classes.

We normally make two greeting cards and a 3D project at each class.

Today's going to be a bit different because we'll be making three cards, one of them being a double Z fold, so that will be classed as our 3D project.

I'm really pleased with the Washi Tape card we'll be making, all be it that we'll be using retired Washi Tape.

On Thursday I placed an order that included some Everyday Chic Designer Washi Tape which is made up of black, white and grey/silver.

I'm  99% confident I'll get a very similar effect as I have done with this card - I can't be certain until I actually see it.

I'm not sure if some of the colours will be too dark.

Time will tell and I'll keep you posted with the results.

For today's card I've combined the design from the Melon Mambo Balloon Washi Tape Card I did at training a couple of weeks ago together with the Glitter Tape Wedding card I shared with you recently - see the last two photographs.

I started my card with a Whisper White base, followed by a Silver Foil layer and a top layer of Whisper White.

The three designs of Washi Tape I used were all different widths, which is what I think helps make this card look so attractive.

I adhered the Washi Tape in the same way I did with my two previous cards.

Once I had finished adding the Washi Tape, I adhered the two layers to the card base using Tombow.

Using Basic Grey Ink, I stamped the sentiment from the For The New Two Stamp Set, onto a piece of Whisper White Card Stock and layered it onto a piece of Silver Foil.

Again, I used Tombow to adhere this to the card front.

Using Smokey Slate Ink and Whisper White card stock, I stamped one flower from the Flower Shop Stamp Set and punched it out using the Pansy Punch.

Then I stamped one flower from the Petite Petals Stamp Set and punched that out using the Petite Petals Punch.

Finally, I stamped six flowers from the Pictogram Punches Stamp Set and punched them out using the little flower punch that comes with the Itty Bitty Accent Punch Pack.

I curled all the flower petals and adhered them to the card front, yes, with Tombow, although you could use Glue Dots or Dimensionals if you prefer.

I put an Iced Rhinestone in the centre of the large flower and medium sized Rhinestones in the six small flowers.

While I was working with the Washi Tape I decided to copy the Melon Mambo birthday card but using the Hello Honey design as the main colour.

I like it as much as I like the pink one but I do think it looks far more summery.

I hope you have a great weekend. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Glitter Tape Wedding Card Video

Hello, Crafters.
This morning I uploaded my latest video onto YouTube called Glitter Tape Wedding Card.

The idea for this video occurred to me when I was making the first set of Sunday's team training cards which used Washi Tape.

Previously, I have rarely ever actually used Washi Tape, and I thought that chances are there are lots of other crafters who haven't either.

My favourite card was the one where the whole of the top layer was covered with diagonal strips of Washi Tape - please see photograph 9.

This design made me think about the three Metallics Glitter Tapes that are on offer as one of the Sale-A-Bration products available free with a qualifying order until 31st March 2016.

I made my first wedding card using all three - gold, silver and white - at the normal width - please see photographs 4 and 5.

While I was working on it, I thought it was a shame they weren't varying widths, and this started me thinking how could I make them different widths? Hence the video - please see photographs 1 to 3.

And, of course, this works in reverse too! Say you have three different widths Washi Tapes you want to use for a project, but you'd like them all the same width, now you know how it can be done! Ta-da!! I am pleased with this idea because it opens up other possibilities.

Yesterday, I made the fourth card for the second set for Sunday's training. The technique this card is demonstrating is rainbow stamping using our Marker Pens.

Needless to say I've added my own spin to this card but I used the rainbow technique on both the sentiments I've used. It's a very easy technique and the effect is great.

The three colours I used were Mint Macaroon, Old Olive and Mossy Meadow. I started with the lightest colour first and painted one third of each stamp. Then I changed to the next darker colour and painted another one-third and finally, the third colour on the remainder of the stamp. I huffed on the stamps before I stamped and the effect is really beautiful. Please see photographs 6 to 8.

The yellow pearls in the centre of the Cajun Craze flowers have been painted with a yellow Sharpie pen and the blue flower centres are from the It's My Party Enamel Dots in the Spring Catalogue.

Another project I worked on yesterday was my swap for the Telford Sampler, which is a group of nine people - there are three groups taking part - and we all make nine identical 8cmx8cm samples, like mini card fronts. We can choose the subject but have to stick to the specified colours.

These are Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Soft Sky, Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, Island Indigo, Very Vanilla and Smokey Slate. We can also use gold and silver in any format e.g. heat embossing, foil, glitter, etc., pearls and rhinestones. The other stipulation is that all products used must be current Stampin' Up! products.

On 16th April we're going to the Stampin' Up! OnStage Local Convention in Telford. The Telford Sampler, I'm really pleased to say, is as well as the normal swaps that happen at Conventions.

We have all agreed where and when we will meet up for the actual swap. We'll all finish up with nine colour coordinated samples, including our own, which we'll be able to frame when we get home.

I'll share mine with you after Convention. Swaps for Telford is another project on my list of To Do List!

As if that wasn't enough to keep me busy yesterday, I had four more wedding cards to finish off as a result of doing three takes for today's video! I now have eight! LOL!

That's quite a bit from me today, and if you're still reading this, a big thank you.

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Split Embossing - Video

Hello Crafters.

I have just uploaded my video which shows how to do split embossing. I'm not sure if this is the correct name but it'll do nicely unless I find out otherwise. This is the link: Split Embossing.

I love this technique because it's easy to do and gives a very classy look to a card, especially if you use the Arrows Embossing Folder.

During my classes I used the ZigZag Embossing Folder. It was just as easy to use as Arrows but I wasn't quite so happy with the results. (Sorry but I don't appear to have any photographs of that one!)

I would loved to have been able to use the Happy Heart Embossing Folder. The way it has been designed, it can't be used for top and bottom and keep the hearts up the right way, at the same time.

Stampin' Up! designed Happy Heart the way it is, so that a card front can be put into the folder and embossed with the hearts up the right way.

I kept my wedding card simple and used the For The New Two Stamp Set for the sentiment and Pictogram Punches for the 3 small flowers.

The banners were punched out using the Triple Banner Punch which will punch out banners of any width up to 2" and, with a bit of a push, above 2"!

If you'd like to see how, please see my earlier video: Using The Triple Banner Punch

The second card I'm showing here is the first card I made using this technique.

The DSP I used is from the retired Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack. I used it for the layer behind the sentiment, the strips across the end of the embossing as well as both the flowers - from the Flower Shop and Petite Petals Stamp Sets. I used the Lots of Labels Framelits Dies for the sentiment whic is from the Feel Goods Stamp Set.

This really is a great technique and I hope you give it a try. Any questions, please contact me. I'm always happy to help.

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

7 Banners From The Triple Banner Punch

Hello, Crafters.

I have just uploaded my video showing how you can get 7 different sized banners using the Triple Banner Punch! In my video I also show you how to make sure you leave enough cardstock after your stamping so you don't lose any of it when punching the end! This is the link: 7 Banners From the Triple Banner

Really and truly, there is no reason why you can't cut whatever width you'd like and to punch it into a banner. You'll appreciate what I mean once you've watched the video. I have to admit, the punch wasn't very happy doing the seventh size.............but it did work! The big result of learning how to achieve these different widths is that you can layer the banners with a much smaller edge (surround) than you'd be able to achieve if you stick to the 3 official widths. Such is the beauty of Stampin' Up! products!

During the video, I said, at the end, I'd show how I'll store the banners until I need them for a project.................. but I forgot! So I've put a note on the screen saying I had photographed my method of storing unused stamped images, punched shapes, etc and would post them to my blog the same day I publish the video.

Photograph two shows, starting from the right the plastic wallet that holds complete A4 sheets; the second wallet is a punched plastic wallet (I cut the strip of punched holes off!) which holds all my off cuts; the third bag is a ziplock bag which holds all my unused stamped images, punched shapes, die cuts, etc. I have this set up for all the Stampin' Up! coloured cardstock. Some colours also have very small ziplock bag/s (approx. 5"x3") that I keep unused punched or die cut numbers and/or letters, or hearts or stars from the confetti border punches.

When I decide which colour I want to make a card in, I go to the wallet of my chosen colour and check out what I have in my ziplock bags. Sometimes I find something that fits in with my design, sometimes I find something that makes me amend my design and sometimes I don't find anything suitable at all!

This method suits my thrifty, recycling persona and I hope you find it helpful! Until tomorrow, happy crafting.
