Random Border Design Video

Hello, Crafters.

This morning I posted my Random Border Design video.

I was inspired partly by a card that was part of the Show & Tell display at the last training I went to and also a video I saw by Shelly Godby of Stampin Smiles.

When I have an idea for a video, I make the card or project first.

If it all works out and I'm happy with the result, I make it again but changing something, normally the colour scheme.

While I'm making the second one, I make a not of all the measurements and the products I've used.

Then I prep all the pieces I need during the video and I'm ready to go ahead making the video.

This means I normally have at least two cards, or projects, to show with every video with some kind of variances.

For today's video I made three cards before I finally decided which method I liked best - random or more uniform!

The first card I made was the one in the last photograph.

Although I'm happy with the card, I used Cucumber Crush as the accent colour for the layer, the sentiment and the butterfly.

With hindsight I think it would have looked much better if I'd used Mint Macaroon as the accent.

The second card I made was the Tip Top Taupe - see photograph 3 - and I decided to see what the stamping would look like if I kept to a uniform "pattern".

I think it gives a great effect and I like it but it just doesn't look quite so relaxed as the random stamping.

Then I made the Lost Lagoon card and I was totally happy.

So I prepared the cardstock I needed for the video except I used Blushing Bride as the accent colour.

I think this looks as good as the Lost Lagoon card so now it's just down to colour preference.

Moving on, I'm really pleased to let you know I made great strides with my swaps yesterday - I made a total of 36!

I decided it isn't any good keep telling you I have all these swaps to do unless I actually get on and do something about it!

So I set myself a target of making at least twenty a day which would mean I'd get them all done in time.

So that was an excellent result!

It was our Grand National horse race over here yesterday and hubby went and placed my bet for me - I do this twice a year, the other race is the Derby.

Anyway, my horse came in third ! YAY!

Later in the day, I had an appointment with Sharon for my fortnightly manicure. She very kindly keeps a box of my handmade cards in her salon so her clients can have a browse.

I received a text from her in the morning to say that she'd had a big run on my cards and the box needed topping up!

All in all, a very successful day for me yesterday.

That's about all my news for now. I wish you a very happy Sunday.

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Party Wishes and others!

Hello, Crafters.

If there was any shred of doubt in my mind that I'd done the right thing, by giving up my job in London on 5th February last year, it's definitely not there now! I had to go into London yesterday, the same journey I used for work.

Fortunately, I went after the rush hour. At least I missed all the pushing and shoving but, as so frequently happened, my train broke down on the way in and my train home was cancelled!! Nothing changes!

My heart goes out to all those people who can't do what I did and give up working in London!

When I arrived home, I made my lunch, had a nice cup of tea and went into my studio.........Utopia! I made a video and today's card, which surprisingly used four stamp sets.

I started with a card base of Whisper White Cardstock, then a layer of Tip Top Taupe and a top layer of Whisper White. I decorated the top layer using a little flower-type stamp from the Summer Silhouettes Stamp Set and Lost Lagoon Ink.

I adhered a Tea Lace Paper Doily at the top. Using the no. 3 Deco Label Framelits Die I die cut a piece of Tip Top Taupe and then I used the no. 2 to die cut a piece of Whisper White. After I'd adhered the two together with Tombow, I adhered them onto the doily.

I chose two scraps of co-ordinating Tip Top Taupe DSP from the Cherry On Top DSP Stack. Using the cake stamp from the Party Wishes Stamp Set and Tip Top Taupe Ink, I stamped off once then stamped the cake onto both pieces of scrap.

I also stamped the sentiment on to both pieces of cake using Basic Black Archival Ink. I cut the bottom layer of the cake out first.

Then I cut out the top layer but I left quite a lot extra at the bottom so I could adhere the bottom layer on top of it and line up the sentiment. Then I stamped the cake stand using Tip Top Taupe Ink on Whisper White Cardstock  and fussy cut it out.

I adhered it in place using Tombow and then painted over it using Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. Then I adhered the cake in place with Dimensionals.

Using my Crushed Curry and Lost Lagoon Marker Pens, I inked the candle stamp from the Party With Cake Stamp Set and stamped five candles.

I punched them out using the candle punch from the Party Punch Pack (this is currently available as a bundle with the Party Wishes Stamp Set). I adhered the candles with Tombow and then painted over the flames with the Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen.

I wrapped a piece of the Tip Top Taupe Dotted Lace trim around the card and then adhered it to the card base.

Using Basic Black Archival Ink on Whisper White Cardstock, I stamped the sentiment from the Party Pants Stamp Set and punched it out using the Large Oval Punch and layered it on a scalloped Tip Top Taupe Oval I'd punched out using the Scalloped Oval Punch. I adhered this on the lace trim using Glue Dots.

NOTE: the Party Pants Stamp Set is one of three new free products available during Sale-A-Bration starting on 16th February through to 31st March 2016.

I hope you have a great crafty weekend. Until tomorrow, happy crafting

Shall I do another challenge?

Hello, Crafters.

I have to confess I
haven't thought about
doing another
challenge and all of a
sudden, it's the start
of a new week!

I have enjoyed doing
weeks 1 and 2 and
will give it a thought
while I'm working in
my studio today.

The card I'm sharing
with you today is a
personalised
birthday card I
made for one of
hubby's colleague.

It was for the same
colleague who
wanted an anniversary
card for his girlfriend
- I posted the box
card full of flowers
on 29th May 2015.

I made the birthday
as an easel card and
based the design on
another card I
showed you here
on 28th May 2015.

The only non-Stampin'
Up! products I used
are the card base
and the letters for
Catherine's name.

Happy footnote: the couple became engaged two weeks ago!

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Glazed Hearts Video

Hello, Crafters.

The weather here
yesterday was
absolutely gorgeous a
nd it looks like today's
going to be the same!

In fact, it was so
gorgeous, I had some
windows opened to
let the beautiful
spring air into the
house.

Unfortunately, it
allowed a wasp in,
too!

His timing couldn't
have been worse....
.....I was in the
middle of videoing!

Fortunately, I was
able to continue
without any adverse
attention from the
wasp.

As soon as I had
finished, I ushered
him back out of the
window.

I'm pleased to say
he didn't interrupt
during my second
video!

The video that had
the interruption
yesterday, is the video I am publishing today and you can hear me say during the video that I have a visitor!

I have called this one Glazed Hearts because I have made my own heart embellishments using the Heart Border punch and Crystal Effects. This is the link: Glazed Hearts

The top card is the card I made on the video and I used Tip Top Taupe as my main colour. I didn't actually glue the hearts on in the video and promised to finish the card off screen and post a photograph on here. The second card features Mint Macaron and the third card is Watermelon Wonder. All three feature colours are In-Colors for 2015 - 2017 and will be available for purchase on 2nd June 2015 when the new catalogue is launched.

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.
