Springtime Foils

Hello, Crafters.

This morning I posted my third out of five fancy fold card videos.

As frequently happens, I don't know if this fold has a name but I'm calling it a Partial M-Fold Card.

Before making the video, I made the Berry Burst card with the Springtime Foils first, then I made three using regular Designer Series Paper (DSP).

The three were Whole Lot of Lovely (Powder Pink), Bundle of Love (Soft Sky), and True Gentleman (Crumb Cake).

In the video I show how to paint the Springtime Foils using our Stampin' Blends, and show how to achieve two different looks.

Like a lot of cards this is an easy card as well as be quite a quick card to make, too.

Needless to say I have a lot of photographs to share today, and I'm sure you be able to recognise which is which with the stamp set and colour information above.

I wish you all a very happy Sunday, and until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Feathery Friends - Birds

Hello, Crafters.

Apart from crafting, do you have anything special planned for this weekend?

For me, it's more of the usual as hubby is on call all weekend; fortunately he's able to work from home, and for me it means plenty of crafting!

Yesterday I was working on my fancy-fold card for tomorrow's video, and it needs quite a lot of prepping, so I'll be delightfully busy for most of the day!

Today's card, like yesterday's card, uses the hostess stamp set called Feathery Friends, but at least today it's obvious where the stamp set's name came from! I wonder if it looked odd yesterday that I'd called my blog Feathery Friends, but my card featured flowers?? LOL!

I couldn't think of a name to describe the style of these images but somebody said folk art, and I think that fits the bill beautifully.

My colour choice for today's card is Smokey Slate and Pool Party, and I used both of the Light Stampin' Blends to do the colouring.

I stamped the images using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Shimmery Whisper White Cardstock (CS). I found the CS soaked up the ink from the Blends very quickly, so I kept a short distance away from the edges as much as possible.

The sentiment is from the Lift Me Up Stamp Set, and I coloured the stamp using my Smokey Slate and Pool Party Marker Pens. I used the Petals and More Thinlits to die cut the decorative layer under the sentiment, as well as the sentiment itself.

The scalloped layer did look like the die cut I've adhered inside the card, but I had to cut the two ends off and cut what was left in half to achieve this look. I'm pleased with how this turned out because it's probably unique!

I created the Smokey Slate background for the front of the card using the fabulous Basket Weave Dynamic Embossing Folder!

This is one of the new gifts in the Sale-a-bration Second Release brochure, which you can have free with a qualifying order!

This offer is valid until 31st March 2018, but if you miss this opportunity, you'll be able to buy this product from the new annual catalogue when it goes live on 1st June 2018 - better to get it free if you can!

For me, this Dynamic Embossing Folder produces stunning results every time it's used.

I always spray my CS with plain water before I do my embossing, which is what we were instructed to do by Stampin' Up! when they first introduced these Dynamic Embossing Folders.

However, I do know that not everybody sprays their CS with water before embossing, and they say they get equally good results. Therefore it's a matter of choice: try it whichever way you'd prefer to do it.

If you get stunning results, stick with it; if you're not happy with the results, try the other way!

That's about it from me today. I'm about to start prepping for tomorrow's video! Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Flying Home - New Home

Hello, Crafters.

Today's card is the second idea I told you I had with the Flying Home Stamp Set, not so much the design but I wanted to do a new home card!

I started with a large piece of Whisper White Cardstock (CS), and stamped the birdhouse image in such position that I could have cut the Whisper White CS large enough to be a complete top layer to an A6 card, if that was what I decided I wanted to do!

I used Basic Black Archival Ink for the image and put it to one side to allow it a few minutes to dry.

While I was waiting, I decided to collect together a selection of my Marker Pens to paint the image.

For the leaves I chose Wild Wasabi; for the house and bird I chose Sahara Sand and Crumb Cake; Daffodil Delight for the stamens; a selection of pinks, lavender and purple for the flowers.

After I'd coloured the leaves and the stamens, I tested the pinks, lilacs and purples, by mixing and matching, and eventually settled for Blushing Bride and Powder Pink.

When I'd finished the flowers, I painted the house using Sahara Sand, and created a bit of shading by going over the same area a couple of times.

Then I painted the bird using Crumb Cake, and I did some shading, but unfortunately I went over the edge of his tail - not much but I wasn't happy!

I took a scrap of Whisper White CS, stamped another image of the bird, repainted it, and fussy cut it so I could adhere it onto the bird I wasn't happy with a Dimensional.

This gave me the idea of stamping one of the butterflies, and the flying bird, painting and fussy cutting them as well, so they could be adered onto the main image with Dimensionals!

Next I had to find the sentiment, so I sat down and went through my stamp reference file and found ON YOUR NEW HOME in the At Home With You Stamp Set.

All I needed then was CONGRATULATIONS in a size that complimented it!

Although there were several options I liked - I totally dimissed CONGRATS - the sentiment I liked best was in the Lift Me Up Stamp Set.

It was attached to YOU SOAR ABOVE THE REST stamp, but this didn't matter as I was punching both parts of the sentiment using the Classic Label Punch.

The size of the punch was spot on for this sentiment but too long for the second part i.e. ON YOUR NEW HOME.

As I didn't want a long piece of plain cardstock either end of this sentiment, I lined the first punch up with the sentiment starting where I wanted it to be.

Once I'd punched it out, I fed the end on the right-hand side back into the punch from underneath, which allowed me to punch the excess off!

To put my card together, I started with a Blushing Bride CS card base, with a layer of Whisper White CS, and a top layer of Blushing Bride CS.

I dry-embossed the top layer using the Brick Wall Embossing Folder, and then adhered the three pieces together using Tombow. I adhered all the images to the top layer with Dimensionals, and then adhered a layer of Whisper White CS inside the card.

Using Basic Black Archival ink, I stamped two butterflies and one bird in the bottom right hand corner of this layer, and coloured hem in the same way as on the front.

I forgot to mention that I used Soft Sky and Pool Party Marker Pens for the butterfly on the front of the card, and followed this through inside the card.

There is a third image in the stamp set Flying Home, but I don't have any ideas springing to mind what to do with it!

I hope you've enjoyed this project. That's about it from me today, so until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Masculine Shadow Box Card

Hello, Crafters.

Today, it's my son's birthday, so I decided to make him a shadow box card, similar the the one I made for Sasha last week!

I chose Mint Macaroon with Tranquil Tide for the colour scheme, and hot air balloons for the theme. I used the smaller balloon in the Lift Me Up Stamp Set, and Mint Macaroon Ink stamped off once to decorate the front of the Shadow Box.

I didn't want to use Glimmer Paper for Leigh's name but I wanted something shiny. My first thought was using our Fine Tip Glue as that dries shiny but I decided it'd be such a trial keeping the glue where I wanted it to be. Then I thought about acetate, so I put a layer behind the name and then added a layer of Tranquil Tide Cardstock (CS). I was really pleased with the result although it doesn't show up in the photographs!

I also changed the scalloped glimmer edging around the window I'd put on  Sasha's card to a straight cut frame I die cut using straight cut dies nos. 7 and 8 from the Layering Circle Framelits.

To decorate the Whisper White CS, I stamped five of the smaller hot air balloons using Basic Black Archival Ink. I coloured each balloon using a selection of different coloured Marker Pens. Then I used some die cut masks I always keep in with the stamps, to mask the balloons so I could stamp some of the larger clouds using Smokey Slate Ink.

I felt the white looked very stark and needed to be softened! I used the fine splatter stamp from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set (about to retire on 31st May 2017!), inked in Smokey Slate and stamped off twice. Leaving the masks on the balloons, I stamped randomly all over back. This helped, but not enough. Next I decided to sponge over the entire back using Soft Sky Ink. It worked to a certain extent and I decided to leave it, but if I was to do this again, I'd use a coloured sheet for the back, probably Sahara Sand.

To decorate the front I stamped one large and one small hot air ballon on Mint Macaroon CS using Mint Macaroon Ink. I die cut them using the Up & Away Thinlits, and adhered them to the left of the window using Dimensionals and overlapping them. The sentiment, which is from the same stamp set, was created and adhered in the same way as the hot air balloons

For the gift card pocket at the back of the card, I stamped the same design as I did on the front except I used first generation stamping. I think my favourite design of all those I've done for this week's Shadow Box Cards is the one which was the Happy Birthday sentiment stamped several times in offset straight lines.

This afternoon I have a class and this evening we're celebrating Leigh's birthday at a barbecue at Vicki and son-in-law Leigh's house.  We'll also be having a belated toast to Sasha for her birthday last weekend, too!

It's going to be busy today but a blessed day. I wish you a very blessed day, too  Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

More Balloons!

Hello, Crafters.

I hope you've had a great weekend!

Ours was delightfully busy, especially yesterday afternoon when I went through wedding invitation designs with Vicki and Leigh.

It's all been decided and I'm pleased to say they'll be mainly Stampin' Up!

The balloon design on today's card was something I created when I was designing yesterday's Double Slider Card.

Initially I wanted to stamp and paint balloons but when I'd finished this I thought I'd overdone the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set splatters.

When I showed hubby he said he felt it made the balloons look 3D.

I had kept the images to the top of the Whisper White Cardstock (CS) because not all of it would be exposed when attached to the Double Slider mechanism.

I needed something to fill the space but I didn't want to add more words.

I decided on the Linen Thread because I feel it makes a card more masculine.

I painted the images using Marker Pens.

For the large balloon I used Pool Party and Perfect Plum, with Crumb cak for the two lower parts.

I felt the Perfect Plum and Pool Party sections looked rather bland, so I added dots using a white gel pen and the pen end of the Perfect Plum Marker Pen, respectively.

I also used Pool Party and Crumb Cake for the two small balloons and also added some Wisteria Wonder.

I added large and small clouds using Smokey Slate Ink, as well as the splatters.

I layered the image sheet onto a aheet of the night of Navy design from the Carried Away Designer Series Paper (DSP) that's currenty available as a Sale-a-bration gift.

I layered this onto a sheet of Whisper White CS and then onto a Night of Navy CS card base.

I also put a layer of Whisper White CS on the inside of the card, and then I adhered two horizontal strips of the Carried Away DSP , one top and one bottom!

I was quite pleased with the finished card and so pleased I'd decided to show the image to hubby - his positive resonse really inspired me!

That's about it for today. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Double Slider Card Video

Hello, Crafters.

This morning, I uploaded my video which shows how to make this gorgeous Double Slider Card.

I first saw this demonstrated in a video by Dawn Griffiths six or seven years ago.

I made one for me daughter  using the dressmaker's dummy die that we had sometime ago.

Double slider cards seem to be enjoying a revival at the moment and there is a new way of making them using Dimensionals to aid the construction.

For my card, I followed the way I knew but I'm quite keen to try this other way as well!

With my first balloon slider card, I made a mistake with the strip of plastic I used, and I think it was an issue only because I had punched finger holes.

I had used a strip of plastic which was mainly clear but did have a small amount of writing on it - it was a Stampin' Up! clear plastic bag, except it had the logo in one corner, which was the part I used!!

Needless to say, where I adhered my image panels, it allowed the writing to be visible. It's one of those things that wasn't glaringly obvious - except to me - but I do point out in the video to use clear plastic!

We had a brilliantly successful day at the Gingham Goose Caft Market yesterday. ☺

Our sales were great; I had a lady asking me about being a Stampin' Up! demonstrator; and also a possible new customer.

This lady makes and sells soap, and wants to package them in nice boxes. Unfortunately, she has found that buying ready-made boxes is quite expensive!

We chatted about how easy it is to make boxes, colour co-ordination, ect., and what would she need to buy to make her own.

Photographs 4 & 5: when I set up my table yesterday, I decided less was more and restricted the amount of products I had on display.

I don't know if this helped with the sales, or whether it was because I had new products.

Having said that, I only sold three 3D products and the rest were cards.

As soon as we arrived, we realised we had left one of my trolleys at home............the one that had the make-a-take in it.

So hubby had to drive back home and get it. By the time he arrived back at the Village Hall, it was almost lunch time, and we were experiencing a lull.

After the lunch break, we were amazingly busy and I only managed to do one make-n-take with two very delightful sisters! Oh, well. I think that's next month's make-n-take sorted - more of the same and already prepped!

That's about it for today. I wish you a very happy Sunday and happy crafting.

Rewind! February Thank You Cards!

Hello, Crafters.

I was really disappointed on Sunday when I realised my February Thank You cards were almost identical to my October 2016 Thank You cards.

I was so disappointed that I went back to the drawing board, and used my most used stamp set - Lift Me Up - to create something new.............but still using the 2015 - 2017 InColour Envelope Paper!

I was inspired to use the balloon set because I still had on my desk, two tubs of pre-stamped, pre-cut clouds that were left over from my classes the weekend before last!

I don't normally do any stamping in advance for my classes but on this occasion, the projects we were making involved a fair amount of stamping and die-cutting, that I did lots of the medium and small clouds in advance.

My attendees were given the option of using up to three large and three small clouds, but everyone decided to stick with my design which was one medium and two small.

I used our Notepads and Envelopes for my cards and added a layer of the Envelope Paper.

The only designs I had left were the Delightful Dijon, Cucumber Crush and Watermelon Wonder Stripes, and the woodgrain effect in Watermelon Wonder.

I chose Tip Top Taupe for the balloon and sentiment, and Smokey Slate for the clouds.

I tested the sentiment, which is from the Rose Wonder Stamp Set, on a scrap of envelope paper to see what it looked like, but decided it wasn't as visible as I wanted, so I tried again with the darker Soft Suede Ink.

I still wasn't totally happy with it and decided to stamp the sentiment on strips of white cardstock, instead.

Still using Tip Top Taupe Ink, I stamped the larger balloon and die cut it using the Up & Away Framelits Dies.

Eventually I ran out of ready made clouds and had to make a few more!

The next decision was, do I add the balloon to a square, oval or circle, and then onto the card base, or adhere it straight to the Envelope Paper.

I tested to see what each option looked like and it was no contest!

I used Tombow to adhere the Envelope Paper, the images and the sentiment to the card base.

There was a third tub on my desk which contained some die cut clouds that hadn't been stamped, so I thought I'd use them on two cards so you could see the difference!

To stamp or not to stamp, that is the question?? See the last two photographs.

I feel so much happier about my February Thank You cards now, and my parcel full of hostess gifts has just been delivered! Yay!

My first job once I've published today's blog is to make tomorrow's video, which will be the wedding favour box I shared here a few days ago.

Then I can get my happy mail sorted out while I waiting for my video to upload, or download.

Is there a difference between these?

That's it for today. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Weekend Classes

Hello, Crafters.

I had two classes this weekend and I  featured the Lift Me Up Stamp Set and the Up & Away Framelits Dies.

As always in my classes, we made two greeting cards and a 3D project, which will be featured in Wednesday's video.

The 3D we made in class was decorated with a balloon but I haven't yet decided what design I'll use for the video!

The two greeting cards we made were totally opposite each other in design.

The first card, the single balloon, demonstrated how easy it is to make a great card using just one stamp and one die from the bundle.

The second card demonstrated how easy it is to combine different stamp and dies from this bundle with other stamp sets.

The first card we made was this single card which is more or less identical to yesterday's video.

The main difference is that the for the class card we replaced the hot air balloon that we die cut back into position.

I had made two samples, one where I had sponged the edge around the balloon in Island Indigo Ink, and the second card I left the balloon "clean" - attendees were allowed to choose which one they preferred.

The Designer Series Paper (DSP) is from Bloom & Bliss DSP.

The second card used five stamp sets:-

1). Soft Sky "watercolour" background - Perpetual Birthday Calendar

2). Sahara Sand - mesh effect - Timeless Textures

3). Sahara Sand - seagulls - High Tide

4). Dapper Denim - sentiment - Build a Birthday

5). Smokey Slate - clouds - Lift Me Up

5). Real Red on Crumb Cake Cardstock (CS) - large hot air balloon - Lift Me Up

5). Dapper Denim on Crumb Cake CS - small hot air balloon - Lift Me Up

This card was inspired by a card I saw in the Spring catalogue.

It's not my normal style but it just really caught my eye.

I really must try and leave this stamp set alone, now! LOL! I have several stamp sets I still haven't opened!

That's it for today. I'm seeing my accountant this afternoon, so hopefully I can stop fretting about last year's tax return! LOL!!

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.
