It was featured on YouTube by a lady
called Shelley Roberts back in 2014.
Shelley credited Sam Hammond -
Pootles - as the designer of this box.
It's not often I actually sit and watch videos; if I have my iPad on, it's normally just for a bit of company! Does anybody else do that?
Anyway, Shelley's video stopped me in my tracks, and I sat there glued!
After I'd finished watching
Shelley's video, I watched Sam's version, during which Sam said she has
no idea how she came up with this idea!
All I can say is I'm so pleased
she did as I think it's stunning.
Since I first saw Shelley's video
three days ago, I haven't stopped making these boxes! It's extremely
rare that I think Designer Series Paper (DSP) is a good idea for boxes,
but this box is amazingly strong, and it's ideal for DSP!
This is because the way the corners are fixed together.
Photograph 2 shows the inside of one of the corners, and you can see how the layers have re-inforced the original tab.
I think you might need to make one of these boxes to fully appreciate the technical side of the construction.
Photograph 3 shows the box from the base which really helps to appreciate the beauty of this project.
Photograph 4 shows the side of the box and clearly shows the beautifully smooth, curved corner Photograph 5 shows the second box I made.
As usual, I use retired products when I first start working on new projects. I can't remember what this Designer Series Paper was called but all the designs were in Whisper White and either Sahara Sand or possibly Tip Top Taupe!
There are plenty of ways these boxes could be decorated.
The two boxes I made using the Petal Garden Designer Series Paper Stack were embellished with a simple Thank You sentiment.
I used the stamp from the Eastern Beauty Stamp Set and punched it out using a 1" Circle Punch.
As something a bit different, I decorated the Whisper White Cardstock (CS) sentiment with some little flowers I'd fussy cut from an identical sheet of the DSP stack. I didn't think about decorating the two Christmas boxes as I'm not into full swing for Christmas yet!
However, I did make two red and white boxes using the same sheet of Quilted Christmas DSP Stack.
I reversed the two sheets to show how different the same design paper can look!
I'm off to the hairdressers this morning so I must dash. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.
Hello, Crafters. Earlier
this morning I posted my video which shows how I made this gift box.
It's to hold a
key ring, which I'll be sending to all my June online customers as my
personal Thank You for shopping with me!
This is as well as the hostess
gift they'll receive through the Hostess Club I run each month. ☺
The
box closure was inspired by a box I saw Sam Hammond make on one of her
videos.
I had to change the measurements, width and length to fit my
gift, but kept the closure feature!
I also changed to a sheet of Specialty Designer Series Paper (DSP)
instead of our regular DSP, partly because the gift is quite
weighty, and also because it needs to go through the post.
I only had
two sheets of current Specialty DSP which were from the Eastern Palace
Specialty DSP.
As I can only get three boxes from one sheet, I needed to find
some other sheets for my gifts.
I found four 12" x 12" sheets from the
now-retired Pop of Pink Specialty DSP, but that still wasn't enough!
Next I started using the Irresistibly Floral Specialty DSP.
When I run out of
this, I'll move onto the all white Fancy Frost Specialty DSP that was
available in the last Christmas catalogue.
I bought an extra pack just
before the catalogue expired!
This is a very easy box to make and I did have an happy accident while I was working out the sizes I needed.
Part of the instructioners were to be to "score from the vertical edge down to the second score line", but I lost concentration and scored right down to the other end!
I decided to make the same "mistake" on the other side, and then carried on!
The result was lovely!
These extra score lines, resulted in two debossed lines on either side on the front and back of the box about 1/4" in!
I was so pleased with the effect, I added it onto all the boxes!
On Friday, hubby bought a new printer/copier/scanner as our old one had become unreliable.
He took the old printer out of the office and put it on the floor in the bathroom because he didn't want to put it on the carpet.
Hubby then took the new machine to the desk and noticed a small pool of what appeared to be navy blue ink. He cleaned it up and asked me to check under the old printer in the bathroom while he picked it up.
Yes, there was ink on the bottom, but it wasn't dripping and hadn't marked the bathroom floor. Hubby carried on installing the new printer. When he had finished, he went to the bathroom, picked up the old printer and carried it through to the bedroom, so he could pack it away in the box the new printer had arrived in.
Unknown to him, a couple of steps out of the bathroom the printer started leaking onto the carpet. Hubby only saw what was happening when he bent down to put the old printer in the box!
The last
three photographs show our not so beautiful cream carpet, along the landing and going into our bedroom! Thank goodness for home insurance
that includes accidental damage!!!
I wish you a very blessed Sunday. Until tomorrow, happy crafting. JanB.
What a
wonderful day it was yesterday; the sun was shining, the windows were
open and the birds were singing, and it looks as if we have more of the
same today!
I
have two classes this weekend and one of my ladies, who recently bought
a Big Shot, asked if we could do projects using embossing folders.
I
wanted to try and combine it with the Eastern Palace Bundle, as time is running out to take advantage of the special Eastern
Palace Suite promotion which ends on 31st May 2017. I'd
seen today's card on Pinterest earlier this week, and thought this would
be
ideal as it means one project would be showing how to use the Dynamic
Embossing Folder.
It's not often I CASE a card without adding my own
spin, but I have today! The only changes I made were changing the colour, and decorating
the inside my card!
Full credit for this card goes to Linda Kaufman:
lindaksstampinpage.blogspot.ca Many thanks, Linda. I
started my card with a base of Whisper White Cardstock (CS), with a
layer of Emerald Envy CS and a top layer Whisper White CS.
I sprayed
this top layer once on the front and once on the back with plain water.
We're advised to do this when we're using Dynamic Embossing Folders as
it saves the cardstock from tearing.
Then I placed the cardstock inside the Hexagons
Dynamic Embossing Folder, making sure it was straight.
I placed the
embossing folder, with the fold facing front so it goes through first, on the Big Shot Platform, minus the Thin Die Adaptor and then one
cutting mat.
I cranked it through the Big Shot and the result is
amazing; the depth of the embossing is stunning. I
used one die from the Eastern Medallion Thinlits - please see last
photograph.
This die cut stays on the cardstock, so I removed it by die
cutting it using the straight cut die no. 8 from the Layering Circle Framelits.
I
layered this onto a scalloped circle I'd die cut using the no. 8
scallop die from the same set of dies.
Then I die cut a Whisper White
Stitched Shape Circle using the no. 2 circle die, and layered this on a
scallop circle die cut using the no. 4 scallop die from the Layering
Circles Framelets.
Before I adhered all the layers together, I
stamped the little decoration between each petal on the outside of the
circle, and I also stamped the sentiment on the Stitched Shape circle
die cut.
Both stamps are from the Eastern Beauty Photopolymer Stamp Set.
Once all these layers were adhered together with Tombow, I adhered a
Delicate White Doily at the bottom and then adhered it to the card
front.
I adhered the top two layers together and then tied some retired
Emerald Envy Ribbon around it and tied it in a bow at the front.
This was then
adhered to the card base.
Inside the card I adhered a layer of Emerald
Envy CS, and then a layer of Whisper Whte CS. The pattern I stamped at
the bottom of this layer is also from the Eastern Beauty
Stamp Set.
Now I have to decide on another card using the Eastern Palace Suite and an embossing folder!! Thats about it for today. Until tomorrow, happy crafting,
