Sasha's Birthday Card

Hello, Crafters.

I hope you've had a great weekend. 

Yesterday was my son's girlfriend's birthday and I made her a shadow box birthday card. 

I keep quite a lot of my Stampin' Up! products when they retire because I know I'm likely to want them when I make personal cards for family and friends. 

This was certainly the case for Sasha's card - I used the Little Letters Thinlits Dies!

This was such a brilliant product and they are normally my go-to dies when I want to add someone's name!     

I started Sasha's card with some Watermelon Cardstock (CS) and Whisper White CS, which were both the same size. 

I stamped the front of the Watermelon Wonder CS using Watermelon Wonder Ink and some flowers from the Wild About Flowers Stamp Set.
 
I scored both pieces of cardstock at 1/2" and 1" on both ends. 

I used one of the Layering Oval Dies to die cut the window in the Watermelon Wonder CS. 

Then I die cut an oval the same size from a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper. 

Then I placed a larger scalloped circle die around the oval window and die cut a thin frame for the front of the card.

I laid the Watermelon Wonder CS with the window on a cutting plate, that was sitting on the magnetic platform on my Big Shot. 

I positioned the middle S in the centre above the oval window and then the A and H on either side. 

I cranked it though the Big Shot and then added the last two letters, and cranked them through the Big Shot!

I took a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper and made sure it fitted side to side behind SASHA and came low enough to cover the first S and the last A. 

Then I drew on the back of the Glimmer Paper, around the die cut oval window. I laid it onto my Big Shot so the die lined up with my pencil mark and cranked it through. 
 

I adhered it in place using Glue Dots, and then I glued the scalloped oval frame around the window.

I laid the Watermelon Wonder CS on the Whisper White CS and gently drew around the window outline.

Using Pear Pizzazz Ink I stamped a line of stems and leaves from the Wild About Flowers Stamp Set at the correct height to be visible through the window. 

I added the flowers using Watermelon Wonder Ink, and erased the pencil mark.

Using Tombow, I adhered both the Watermelon Wonder and Whisper White CS Together down both outside 1/2" scored columns.
 
I used some Pear Pizzazz CS to die cut the delicate butterfly from the Bold Butterflies Thinlets Dies.

Then using some Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper, I die cut a solid small  butterfly from the Bold Butterfly Thinlits Dies. 

I adhered the two butterflies together using Glue Dots, and then added some Basic Rhinestones along the body. 

I made the antennae from the bow die in the Mini Treat Bag Framelits Dies - these will be retiring on 31st May 2017 - and adhered them under the first Rhinestone.

The sentiment is from the Circle of Spring Stamp Set - this is also retiring at the end of May - and I stamped it in Pear Pizzazz Ink on Whisper White CS. 

I die cut it using a Stitched Shape Circle Die and layered it onto a scalloped circle I'd die cut using the Layerung Circle frames and Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

I adhered the butterfly and the sentiment to the front of the card using Tombow.

The final touch for Sasha's card was to add another piece of Watermelon Wonder CS, which I'd stamped with flowers just like the front of the card, on the back to hold the Gift Voucher we had bought for her!
  
Note: the extra piece of card you can see in the photograph of the back of the card is there to cover up the personal message I'd written to Sasha before photographing it!

I adhered the die cut letters to the envelope!

Considering the amount of explanation this card has taken to explain what I did, it was a surprisingly quick card to make!

I will be making a video showing how to make this card but I'll do it without using and retired products. I haven't  worked out quite how I'll do it yet, but I'm sure I can come up with something. ☺
