Seaside Shore

Hello, Crafters.

Yesterday I went for something different when it came to making today's card.

I was on a roll with the Oh So Succulents Stamp Set but I was chatting with one of my customers yesterday and she's a new crafter.

Maria mentioned the Seaside Shore Stamp Set and I said it would make a great shaker card.

Needless to say, this started my brain working on how would I do it and this is the idea I came up with.

To make it a bigger challenge, Maria doesn't have a die cutting machine - yet! - so I wanted a design that could be made without.

There aren't any co-ordinating dies for this stamp set so the fish and  the seaweed are all fussy cut.

However, for the shaker card, the images would have to be masked rather than fussy cut because the shakers would get caught on the adhered shapes - see the inside of the card.

As far as the circle is concerned, it wouldn't matter what shape the opening is because it could be like looking into an underwater cave!

I didn't have time to put that idea into practice but maybe I can have a test run with it on Suday!

I started my card with a card base Dapper Denim Cardstock (CS), with a layer Very Vanilla CS and a top layer of Dapper Denim CS.

Using the largest straight-cut circle in the Circle Layering Framelits dies, I cut an opening in the top layer.

I then cut a piece of the By the Shore Designer Series Paper (DSP) to go behind the opening.

I didn't intend to adhere it with the waves going top to bottom!

I was somewhat distracted when I did this and lost my concentration!

Hopefully with the seeweed and the stripes on the Calypso Coral fish going in the same direction, not everyone will notice my boo boo! LOL!

Using Very Vanilla CS, I stamped the blue fish using Dapper Denim Ink and coloued the blanks using my Soft Sky Marker Pen.

Then I stamped the Calypso Coral fish and coloured the blank areas using my Calypso Coral Watercolour Pencil.

I left the colouring as it was because I wanted it to be faint although I may have left it too faint!

Then I used Mint Mcaroon Ink and stamped the seaweed twice, and coloured it in using the Mint Macaroon Marker Pen.

I stamped the sentiment, which is from the same stamp set, using our Basic Black Archival Ink and drew white stitch lines around the circle using a white gel pen.

Then I adhered everything on the front in place.

I lined the inside of the card with a sheet of Very Vanilla CS.

I stamped the Dapper Denim and Calypso Coral fish onto the CS and masked them with die cut PostIt note fish to post the seaweed.

With hindsight, I should have stamped a line of seaweed all the way across the CS, masking as I went.

Never mind - there's always next time!

I hope you have a great weekend.

Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

JanB.

Hi Jan - I'll be very interested to see what you do to stop fussy cuttings from preventing the shaker part working. I was wondering if you could put another piece of acetate over the fussy cutting under the shaker layer - if you get my meaning? I must admit I haven't done fussy cutting shakers. I usually design something I want in Silhouette or Word and print it off. I'm looking forward, as always, to see what you come up with!

    Regards, Maureen

    1. Hi, Maureen. My first thought was an extra sheet of acetate but also wondered if our Fine Tip Glue (works like Crystal Effects) would be suitable. I need time to play. ☺ Happy crafting. JanB.

  2. Love the card & I think the lines on the DSP look much better this direction (up & down) than they would across! Too busy that way. your "inner' designer knew what to do!

    1. Hi, Paowens. I think you're probably right! At least all the lines i.e. stripes on the fish and the seaweed are all going in the same direction and it's very smooth to look at! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.

  3. Hi Jan,

I really like this card, and you have given me a bright idea of how to make my own dsp using your color combo and the stamps. My brother and his wife go to Florida every winter and they love this sort of design...Ann in Canada
