One of the ladies in my team, Teresa, posted a Beautiful You, paper pieced card to a Stampin' Up! Facebook Group for demos recently - see green and yellow card on the right.
It was exceptionally lovely because of the various elements Teresa had used.
Needless to say, she received a lot of positive feedback from other demos and was asked a few times how she did the dress.
As she doesn't make videos, I asked if she minded if I made one, which is what I've uploaded on to YouTube earlier this morning!
One of the elements I particularly like is the sentiment stamped, tone on tone, on the card base.
As I struggle keeping things straight, for the video I chose the easy option and used one of the splatter stamps from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set instead.
This sketch-like image is more of a challenge for paper piecing than regular images that have a straight line because you have to decide what stays and what goes.
It took me four attempts before I was finally happy with the end result.The hat was the biggest challenge because there isn't any definition between the face and the left side of the hat - see the balck and white image stamped inside the cards - see photogrphs 3, 4 and 6.
I used my Calypso Coral Watercolor Pencil and coloured all the flesh area - hands, arm, chest neck and face - very gently.
I had heard that this was the best colour to use but I have to admit I was rather apprehensive because I was convinced it was going to be too orangey.
Once I went over my colouring with a Blender Pen, it really did lighten up a lot and looks a great flesh colour!
I
chose to use our Shimmery White Cardstock (CS) as I knew I'd be using a Blender Pen and
this cardstock copes with water better than our regular Whisper
White cardstock does. With the Mint Macaroon card I made, I cut the Shimmery White CS too small so there wasn't enough room to die cut the oval - hence the rectangle!
The Designer Series Paper (DSP) I used for my three cards is all from Blooms & Bliss DSP.

Thank You for CASEing my card Jan, I am thrilled that you and other card makers liked it so much. you did a fabulous job of it too I love love love the one in Sweet Sugarplum cardstock and the one that you made live on video. It never ceases to amaze me how changing colours or an element can totally change the look of the card, thanks for this video hun I am honoured!!!

DeleteBeautiful cards Jan. Thanks for the tips on doing the hat. Great idea to colour the hat and the face instead of cutting. I wanted this set when I first saw it and then changed onto the hot air balloon one instead - I went for a balloon flight several years ago when I was on holiday in Queensland...absolutely fantastic - but I've since gone back onto this set again...hahaha. ReplyDeleteFunny you should mention the landing being a bit bumpy...Our guy asked if we wanted a smooth or bumpy one...we went for the bumpy one!!! If you ever get the chance to go up in a balloon Jan...TAKE IT!!! Cheers Ali x

And if we had a smooth landing because of me, I'd feel guilty that I'd spoilt the fun for other people! LOL! I'll carry on giving it a miss, just in case!
