Hijacked Videos

Hello, Crafters.

This is the first time I've started my blog with some not very good news!

I've found out that forty-seven of my videos have been hijacked!

Somebody by the name of Rodney Potter has hijacked these videos and posted them to his account as his own!

I don't understand what he gets out of doing this - he has two subscribers - but it is clearly wrong and I have YouTube investigating.

Going forward, before watching any of my videos, can you please check that it's my name, Jan Brown, under the title of the video and/or by the side of my profile picture.

If it isn't my name, but is clearly one of my videos, please "Report".

This can be done by clicking More where you see Add To, Share, More under his name.

If you know anything about hijacked videos that would be useful to me, I'd be extremely grateful if you would email me at janb@janbcards. Many thanks☺

On a much happier note, you may remember on Thursday, I posted about the British Craft Awards and suggested you may like to vote for Stampin' Up! as the Best Retailer - anybody worldwide can vote.

I was totally bowled over on Thursday evening when I received a message from a friend, who's also a SU demo, who said she'd voted my blog as the best blog!

Now I've calmed down after the thrill of finding that out, I started thinking, maybe there are other followers who'd also like to vote for me?? Just sayin'! ☺☺☺ Please go to www.britishcraftawards.com and click on PAPERCRAFT.

After the business about my hijacked videos yesterday,  the only project I was successful with was planning and making my first eight swaps for our OnStage Convention in Telford in two weeks time - only another 112 to go!

As there's a lack of anything new to share with you, I went through my photographs from 2012, which was my first year as a Stampin' Up! demonstrator!

Photograph 1 - I found the instructions for this box on one of Frenchie''s videos - France Martin.

I loved the design of this Designer Series Paper (DSP).

Photograph 2 - SU used to sell a purpose-built spray box which was only available in the US.

I decided that it couldn't be too difficult to make my own using a cardboard box, and I was right!

Needless to say you get two out of one box, so I have one for my classroom and one for my studio.

They're quite big and cumbersome but very useful if you want to spritz the card you're making and not everything else that's on your workstation or the carpet! LOL!

Photograph 3 - this was a lovely size box I created when I was learning the secret of making a box lid that fits the box brilliantly! Again, another beautiful DSP.

Photograph 4 - I made my three grandchildren very similar Christmas cards in 2012.

I was reminded about it when I saw a post on Facebook recently where someone had used the same theme but in just one image.

Each image of my Gingerbread man is getting smaller and smaller as he is being eaten!

Photograph 5 - a box with a flap lid - made with non-SU cardstock! - and the same Gingerbread man as before.

Photograph 6 - this is a covered Shopping List notepad which was one of my projects for my classes, which I started in May 2012, three months after I joined SU!

Photograph 7 - one of my class attendees wanted some favour boxes for her grandson's fifth birthday party. She wanted something boyish for him and he loves fire engines - he was thrilled with these!

That's about it for today. I hope you have a great weekend. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

JanB.

  1. Oh horrors! The scallywag! I hope he gets caught and appropriately dealt with ... that is awful! Can't fault him for good taste in his choice however ... you ARE the best in my humble opinion. What a feeling of being violated, nonetheless. Do please keep us posted, Jan. Loved the walk through the photo section this morning ... some great paper crafting as always! TFS and all the best on the video followup with YouTube.

    1. Hi, Geraldine. Apparently this guy did it to the Frugal Crafter previously! So whatever happens, the penalty can't be that severe! ☺ Happy crafting. JanB.

    1. Hi, Joeytipping. You're a star - many thanks. I just don't understand why this guy has hijacked my videos - he only has 2 subscribers!! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.

  3. What a lousy thing to do stealing someone's talent for card making. Some people stoop so low eh? Anyone looking at your blog knows how lovely your cards are and your talent as well.

  5. Hi Jan, I love your useful videos and you are the first I search when I am looking to find how to make something. I have shared videos on my facebook (I don't have a blog) that others have done but have always given credit to the creator. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas you share with us all the time.

    1. Hi, Mypocketsful. Many thanks for your support. I'm so pleased you enjoy my videos. It's perfectly OK to share peoples' videos and also to add to their playlists but it's not OK to remove the originators name and replace it with your own, which is what this guy has done! In the meantime, I'll keep my videos coming! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.

    2. Hi Jan
I went to YouTube and found Rodney Potter. There are 3 or 4 Rodney Potter's. He has a coupe channels with weird videos he uploaded. The channel with your videos has a title with your name on each one. When I look at them I know they are you. Now, many people on YouTube upload videos of others they like and want to refer back to themselves. Sort of like buying a book vs renting at a library. Normally, they upload these to playlists. I have a feeling this guy is new to YouTube and just not getting how it works normally. Since the label on each one has your name, I don't think he is really trying to take credit for your work. I think he admires it. StampinUp encourages CASEing, I am an SU demo in Colorado for 15 years and CASE all the time. I always give credit to the person who created the project, VERY important to me. My Pinterest account, I state that I case the "best of the best" projects. If I ever want to use in a class, I would ask the creator first. This is my personal code of ethics. I hope this guy is not trying to mess with you and is just saving your videos for his own use.

    3. Jan, I just read the above before I posted my comment. Did he just recently add the line on each post that gives you credit? Or was iit always there? I think this guy is maybe clueless. If he has done this before, I then suspect that he is not really who he says he is and is trying to mess with you, which is very uncool and whoever the prior person he did this too. Totally weird deal. I want you to know I totally respect and admire your art!

    4. Hi, Nancy. The man who's stolen my videos is the man who says he has 47 videos and 3 subscribers. YouTube rules allow videos to be shared and added to playlists but with both actions, the creator's name doesn't change. Rodney Potter has removed my name and added his own!! Apart from that he hasn't tried to hide the fact that they're my videos. His actions have made me lose views, possibly susbscribers and definitely earnings! That's stealing! But I don't understand what's in it for him! The sooner YouTube close him down the better! Many thanks for your very kind words. I really appreciate your support - thank you. ☺☺ Happy crafting, JanB.
