This morning I uploaded my video that shows how to make these beautiful Lip Balm Holders. These are my September Thank You gifts for my online customers. I will send one to all my customers, as well as some product from either catalogue as part of the hostess club I run.
(Please note: Stampin' Up! rules only allow me to sell/recruit in the UK, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Austria! So sorry!)
Today's project was inspired by a swap I received when I went to OnStage in Brussels last November. If you saw my video where I shared my swaps with you, you will have seen this before. It was made by Heike Hulle-Bolze, and her website is www.papierkult.blogspot.com.
Initially, it looked like an easy project to make but when I decided to go for it, it turned out to be quite a challenge! The difficult part was gluing the Designer Series Paper (DSP) round the folded cardstock.
It took three attempts before I sussed out how to do it. Then I made two more to make sure the first successful holder wasn't just a fluke.
As I frequently do when I'm experimenting with new projects, I used retired DSP. As it turned out, although the first two weren't the best, I still consider them both as successful.
Once I'd worked out measurements for the cut lines, I found the secret was not to score the DSP. Instead, I kept the sheet straight and applied Tombow to the front section first, added the DSP and made sure that was adhered down properly before folding on the first scoreline.
I repeated this process on the centre spine area, adhered the DSP and then folded on the second score line. Then I did the third and final area.
I've now made thirteen of these holders and I'm planning to have a nice relaxing day making a few more. If I plan to make these in small batches, they're such a pleaseure to make!
Photographs 1 to 3: the first three photographs show some completed holders, all made with current DSP and ribbons. All have flowers that I made using the Crazy About You Stamp Set.
Photograph 2: this includes one holder that's been decorated with one flower from the Botanical Builder Framelits Dies.
Photograph 3: I used Foxy Friends Stamp Set for the tree trunk and made the fox by using various punch outs using the fox Builder Punch. I chose the Crazy About You Stamp Set to make the flower on this A little Foxy DSP.
Photographs 4 to 6: these are all retired DSP and ribbons. I chose these colours because I had retied Stitched Satin Ribbon which is the same as the ribbon used for the Blushung Bridde and Pool Party holders.
I wish you a happy Sunday. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.

Yet another wonderful paper project beauty that I'm sure your customers are going to be thrilled to receive. Thank you for sharing the how-to with us ... super job again, Jan!
ReplyDeleteHi, Geraldine. So pleased you like today's project. One of the demos in my Stampin' Up! team, said it'd be a great idea for a glue stick, which I think is a fabulous idea for teachers' gifts. It made me think lipstick, too! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.
DeleteHi Jan,
ReplyDeleteI just love this little project, so simple to make, but so beautiful and useful too. I used the This Christmas Specialty DSP and because it's much thinner then our regular DSP, I didn't need that little extra piece for bending purposes. I did find that if I turned it upside down, my lip balm fell out. lol. Guess I have to make my slits a little smaller...Ann in Calgary
Hi, Ann. I'm so pleased you like this project. I haven't bought the Christmas Specialty DSP yet but my concern would be that it would tear more easily because of the moisture from the Tombow? I ordered some last night so I'll try and remember to try it. ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.
