Burgled!

Hello, Crafters.

I have posted today's video called Christmas Bauble with Battery-operated Tea-light. When I posted the photographs on my blog on Friday, I wasn't sure whether to make a video or not. As I was working through the day, I decided it would be a good idea to make one!

I was somewhat traumatised yesterday when we found we had been burgled. Fortunately, the thieves had broken into our detached garage and not our actual house. The garage is at the bottom of our garden and has to be accessed via a private road at the back. 

Garage - Summer

Hubby went down there about 5.30 pm yesterday evening to find me an extension lead. I needed one to plug in all three sets of Christmas lights that I'd used to start decorating our tree with. I wasn't unduly bothered that he was taking quite some time.............. I know what it looks like inside our garage! He came back and said he couldn't open the door. I went back down with him although I've no idea what I thought I could achieve that he hadn't been able to. We started to push, kick and shoulder butt the door and it sounded as if something was blocking it.

Garage - Winter

The gate at the side of the garage is kept locked and the key to open it is kept inside the garage!! We went to the front of the house and drove round to the garage. In the headlights of the car, we could see our up-and-over electric garage door was open about 12"-15". We also saw the back gate was open! We tried opening the garage door but it wouldn't budge. Fortunately, there isn't much of me and I was able to get on my knees and squeeze through the gap into the garage. I put the light on and then pressed the button on the garage control unit but the door still wouldn't budge. I tried the other door and it had been locked from the inside, top and bottom, which is something we never do. 

While I was waiting for hubby to join me I had a look around and saw the chest freezer had been left open, the wine rack was empty, the champagne rack was empty, the shelves where we kept all the house cleaning and laundry products were empty, a cupboard door was open, as was one of hubby's tool boxes, desk drawers and filing cabinet drawers! Hubby arrived and also started looking around. He noticed his overalls had been moved from their hook and hung over the window, which is next to the door, to block any view from the house!

The police arrived within two hours which we thought was pretty good. They had a good look around, then came into the house and asked loads of questions. This morning we're waiting for the  forensics guys to arrive.

This weekend, we have hundreds, possibly thousands of people in all parts of the UK whose homes have been flooded. This has helped us to keep our problem in proportion. I can't imagine how devastating it must be to have your house flooded.

I'm not wallowing in self-pity! I'm counting my blessing and going back downstairs to carry on putting up my Christmas decorations. ☺
