Beautiful Day

Hello, Crafters.

Understandably, the Springtime Foils Designer Series Paper (DSP) is hugely popular, and is being used by a huge number of crafters in many different ways. 

NOTE: this DSP is only available as a free gift during Sale-a-bration (SAB) for a qualifying order. SAB ends on 31st March 2018.

Painting the sheets, as I did for yesterday's video, is just one of those many ideas. For today's card I was planning to pick two of the ideas I've seen and liked, and I was planning to add my own twist. 
 
While I was playing with ideas in my mind, I wondered if I could apply the same basic ideas, but use a different set of DSP. I checked through the different sets I have, and decided to have a go with the Petal Passion DSP.

I took a sheet of the flowery design which - I have to be honest - I don't particularly like because I think it's too heavy, and too black!
I wanted a flower, or group of flowers, that I could paint, and fussy cut to be the main feature of my card! 

I chose the group of three roses, which had three leaves on either side. I cut the area out first without causing any damage to any of the flowers nearby or touching what I was using. Then I fussy cut them properly, and coloured using Stampin' Blends; for the roses I used Light and Dark Daffodil Delight and Light and Dark Old Olive for the leaves. 

My method of using the Stampin' Blends, is to go over my first selected part of the image, and paint over with the light colour, and as soon as I've finished, I go over the outside edges on leaves, and the top edges of each petal on the flowers, using the Dark Stampin' Blends. Next, I go over the image with the Light Stampin' Blend again, to get the Dark and Light to blend together beautifully. 

My plan was to use Daffoldil Delight Cardstock (CS) as a layer behind the DSP, but I thought the painted roses looked more like Crushed Curry! This worked out well as it allowed me to use the Crushed Curry ribbon which is my absolute favourite!


I made a card base in Basic Black CS, and then I took a layer in Crushed Curry, one for inside and one for outside. 

I chose two designs for the top layer of the card from the Petal Passion DSP, and was planning to use the criss-cross pattern on the upper part of the card because it made me think of garden trellis. As it turned out, I thought the design was too busy for the roses, and chose to use the black and white stripe design instead, and put the trellis design at the bottom. 

To adhere the ribbon to the card, I put some Tear & Tape across the front, and laid the ribbon on top of it. I found it so much easier to get the ribbon straight, when I combined working with the tape and with working with the Grid Paper at the same time!

With the ribbon safely in place, I adhered the top two CS layers together, and then onto the card base. I adhered the roses with Dimensionals, and a bow using Tombow.

I chose the sentiment from the Beautiful Day Stamp Set, which I stamped in Basic Black Archival Ink, onto a piece of Whisper White CS. After adhering it to a layer of Crushed Curry, I adhered the sentiment to the front of the card using Dimensionals.

Finally, to decorate the inside of the card, I adhered a layer of Whisper White CS on a layer of Crushed Curry. I had another look at the sheet of DSP I'd taken the main roses image from, and found a single rose that had started to fall off the sheet. I fussy cut and painted as before, and adhered it on the Whisper White layer inside the card.

I'm pleased with the overall design of my card; I just wish there wasn't so much black in the roses.
