Colouring Petal Passion Designer Series Paper

Hello, Crafters.

Despite being a sombre occasion, my Aunt's funeral went well yesterday. When we woke yesterday morning the sun was shining and it was a beautifiul day. Unfortunately, it didn't last long and once it started to go down hill, it went downhill fast! We arrived home early evening, and had a very welcome cup of tea; then I disappeared into my studio! I wanted to make an easy card so I decided to colour some of the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper (DSP).

I tested a small area with Marker Pens first and then I tried Stampin' Blends, and Stampin' Blends won! I cut a piece of DSP to size for the top layer, and chose to use the Light Olive Green and the Light and Dark Pool Party. After painting the leaves, I went back to my test piece to see if I could do some blending using the Dark Old Olive, but the area was too small for me, and looked far too dark, so I decided to leave my finished leaves as they were.

Next I painted all the flowers using the Light Pool Party, and then went around the outer edge of all of them with the dark Pool Party Stampin' Blend. Normally my next step would have been to go back with my Light Pool Party to blend the light and dark together, but I decided that I'd leave the flowers as they were, because I liked the look! 

Then I started looking for a sentiment! I really like the Happy Day, Happy Year, Happy Life sentiment which is in the Basket of Wishes Stamp Set - this is my newest stamp set which arrived on Tuesday. I felt this sentiment should also have Happy Birthday, so I chose the Happy Birthday sentiment from the Rose Wonder Stamp set. I've now decided this looks just as good, if not better, as having the four "happy's" all on one stamp!

Using the stitched Shapes Framelits dies, I die cut the three "happy's" image with a circle die, and die cut a piece of Pool Party CS using the next size circle die. For the Happy Birthday sentiment, I did the same but using the oval dies.

I layered the DSP onto a layer of Pool Party Cardstock (CS), and then I adhered two strips of the Pool Party Shimmer Ribbon around this layer, positioned so they would be centred under the two sentiements. Using Tombow, I adhered this layer to the Whisper White card base, and then I added Dimensionals to the two sentiments and adhered them to the card front.

Although I liked how may card was looking, I thought it was rather bland, and I considered adding some butterflies, but abandoned that idea as being old hat! HaHa! I had a look around my studio and I spotted the little tub of Petal Passion Embellishments. I've used some of the flowers on previous cards but not the leaves, partly because there's a hole at the top and it needs something to fill it. At first I tied a small bow with some really old Pool Party and Whisper White Baker's Twine, but it didn't look right. I agonised about the best way to add the embellishments and eventually settled on what you see in the photographs.

To complete the inside of the card, I added and layer of Pool Party CS then a layer of Whisper White CS. I painted a small section of my test sheet, making sure the bottom edge was a straight line and fussy cut it. I added Tombow and adhered it in the bottom right-hand corner, with the straight edge sitting on the straight edge of the Whisper White CS sheet. 

Unfortunately, I forgot to photograph the inside of the card! DOH! I'll try and remember later today so I can share it with you tommorrow. I'm pleased how my card has turned out, and I love the Petal Passion DSP, but I think the black outlines of these deisgns are just a bit too heavy to colour and use as DSP. What do you think? Is it too heavy?
