Celebrate You Brayering

Hello, Crafters.

When I made the bottle top card at Team Training on Sunday, I knew I wanted to make a video showing how to do the brayering.

I really love the ombre effect our sponge brayers create, and I just had to share it.

I remember the first time I used our sponge brayers, I was totally bowled over by the results I achieved.

At that time, I used them to colour our ready-made boxes, and the colour saturation I achieved was fabulous.

I decided to use the "celebrate you" part of the bottle top card design, but then added my spin to it.

The stamp set that co-ordinates with the Celebrate You Thinlits Dies is called Amazing You, and I chose to use the flower and the sunshine stamps.

Altogether yesterday I made four of these cards, but I ruined one of them - really ruined, totally past being rescued!

It was the first card I'd made, and I decided to use my Fine-Tip Glue Pen to paint the Daffodil Delight ½” circle I'd adhered into the centre of the sun!

Once I'd finished, I put the card on the shelf so it could be left to dry without being damaged! Some hope!

I needed to check something on the card, but I foolishly put it down on my table rather than back on the shelf once I'd finished!

You can see the card in the video, but I forgot to photograph it to share it here.

When I brayered the CELEBRATE and the YOU, I decided to do YOU much darker than the CELEBRATE as I felt it was the more important word out of the two of them.

I stamped the flower on the left-hand side, and coloured it using our Marker Pens.

I decided to paint a second flower so that I could fussy cut it, and adhere it on top of the first flower, with the petals curled up slightly.

This allowed me to be more relaxed about colouring the flower on the card base, so I could focus my attention on the flower that was being adhered on top.

I toyed with the idea of wrapping ribbon around the top two layers, but decided it would take too much prominence, and leave the YOU in the shade somewhat!

One of my favourite alternatives to using ribbons, is to adhere two or three slim strips of parallel cardstock, which is what I did.

I made two cards in Pool Party and two in Sweet Sugarplum - Pool Party is definitely my favourite!

I think because it's softer, my basic colouring skills are less obvious!

Overall, I'm very pleased with the outcome of today's card, and I think recipients will be pleased to receive it!

This morning I'm off to the hairdressers - more valuable crafting time lost, but it has to be done! LOL!

That's it from me today. Until tomorrow, Happy crafting.

  1. Beautiful simple card!!! Love it! I really like both the sugarplum and the pool party. Thank you for showing the brayer technique. I will have to try that but first need to get the brayers! I am from the U.S. and a demonstrator myself, albeit just a hobby one which suits me right now as I am still working. Maybe when I retire I can step it up a notch but we'll see!! I so appreciate your videos, Jan, and how you explain how to do the project and the hints and pitfalls of doing one way or another. In short you show the best way to go about it. Have a lovely day!! God bless.
