Trying something different

Hello, Crafters.

I hope you've enjoyed your New Year weekend.

When I was writing my blog yesterday describing Kirsty's card, I was quietly making up my mind to to have a go at making a "random" card!

Today's card is my first one and I used Kirsty's Christmas card as a sketch for mine.

Although it's way out of my comfort zone, I'm quite happy with the result!

I started my card with a top layer of Whisper White Cardstock (CS).

Using Basic Black Archival Ink, I stamped Happy Birthday, which is from the Better Together Stamp Set, in the centre.

I chose to use three colours for my card: Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry.

I don't like multi-coloured cards so I thought this would be an acceptable compromise!

For the stripes on the top and bottom of this layer, I used the stamp from the Ready To Pop Stamp Set, and stamped it in Bermuda Bay.

I created a mask for the sentiment, by stamping it onto a Post It Note and then cut around the edge leaving about an eight of an inch all round.

The next stamp I used was the little swirly one from the Balloon Adventures Stamp Set.

I placed the mask over the sentiment and inked the stamp with Melon Mambo.

I stamped it once over the sentiment, re-inked and covered the stripe at the bottom and stamped again.

I repeated this once more on the top left hand side.

I cleaned my stamp, repeated the process with Bermuda Bay Ink, cleaned my stamp again and repeated with Crushed Curry Ink.

The party hat stamp is also from the Better Together Stamp Set.

I stamped three using Archival Basic Black Ink on scraps of Whisper White CS and coloured them with Marker Pens, keeping with the three same colours

I cut them out by hand, and painted over the pom-poms with my Basic Black Marker Pen to hide the Whisper White CS that was still visible.

I adhered them randomly on the top layer using Tombow.

Then I adhered the top ayer onto a layer of Bermuda Bay CS, and then adhered it onto a base card of Whisper White CS.

I could have used Washi Tape for the stripes at the top and bottom, but as I said yesterday, I'm not really into Washi Tape!

Definitely an idea I'll try again. Thanks for the inspiration, Kirsty!

That's about it for today. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.
