Eating the Gingerbread Man!

Hello, Crafters.

A few years ago, I made a Christmas card for each of my three grandchildren which depicted four images of a gingerbread man at four different stages of being eaten - see last photograph!

I was going to make a video of it but I saw a card recently with a similar theme so I decided to leave it.

To make today’s card, I started with a card base of Whisper White Cardstock (CS) with a layer of Real Red CS.

As I did on Thursday, I went to my DVD box labelled Layer 2 to find a Whisper White top layer for my card.

I chose the layer that had already been dry embossed using the Cable Knit Dynamic Embossing Folder.

I adhered the three layers together using Tombow.

Using Soft Suede Ink and some Whisper White CS, I stamped three images of the gingerbread man from the Cookie Cutter Christmas Stamp Set.

I punched the three images out using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.

Then I took some scrap pieces of Real Red CS and punched out six buttons and three bow ties - just to get the gingerbread men dressed up a bit - using the Cookie Cutter Builder Punch.

I also adhered each of them with non-Stampin’ Up! googly eyes!

I used one of my small retired scalloped circle punches for the “teeth” marks where a chunk has been bitten out of the first gingerbread man’s leg!

The second gingerbread man has had two chunks bitten out and the third gingerbread man has lost three chunks!

I adhered them to the card front using Dimensionals.

I chose the sentiment from the Candy Cane Christmas Stamp Set because I thought it was very appropriate for the subject matter: A CHRISTMAS GREETING WITH SOMETHING FOR EATING! LOL!

I stamped it onto a piece of Whisper White CS using Soft Suede Ink.

Then I die cut it using an oval Stitched Shapes Framelits Die and layered it onto a scalloped oval die cut using the Layering Ovals Framelits dies.

Using Dimensionals, I adhered the sentiment to the card front.

No doubt some of you have already noticed that I said I started my card with a Whisper White CS base but in actual fact, it has a Real Red CS base.

This can only mean one thing!

Yes, I had my card upside down when I adhered my images to it so it opened up the wrong way round! DOH!!

I cut off the back half of the Whisper White CS and then used the card front to measure a piece of Real Red CS to create a new card base!

I used a pencil to mark where I needed to cut, vertically and horizontally, and then cut it to size with my guillotine.

I scored halfway down the centre where I needed to fold my new card base and adhered my card front to it using Tombow.

I’m pleased to say my card still fits into one of our standard size envelopes!

I hope I haven’t upset anyone by featuring gingermen biscuits being eaten!

Please note, no real Gingerbread Men were harmed in the making of this card!!

I’m really pleased that Teresa and I have received three requests from crafters who are interested in being kept up to date with plans for our Craft Retreat next September!

Although it's still very early days, we've  started a no-obligation email list of crafters, who may be interested in attending, if all the criteria are correct!

If you'd like to be added to this group of crfters, please email your email address to me at: janb@janbcards.com

I have my first idea for one of the projects, and have started a notebook where I keep jotting down various ideas.

Our Craft Retreat promises to be a great event - I'm so excited about it!

On not such a happy note, I received an email from a young lady yesterday, and she  included a screen shot of what came up on YouTube when she entered a search for Christmas Stampin Up Demonstrators.

The heading was "Mica-Topped Stocking Tops - JanB UK Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Independent" and it was attached to a group of 18 porn videos! My heart hit my boots as I read the email!

I passed it to hubby to investigate and he found several different groups of videos, all using the same heading! He reported it to YouTube and my heading was removed from all of them within less than an hour!

First of all, I'd like to say a big thank you to the young lady who brought this to my attention! Secondly, I want to offer my sincere apologies if you have been affected by this - hopefully, it won't happen again.

Thirdly, I'd like to ask all my crafting friends, if you see anything like this, please, please let me know by emailing a screen shot showing what you put in the search box and the result you received. janb@janbcards.com. Finally, I'll be changing the name of the video to "Using Mica Flakes".

I'm sorry about finishing today's blog on a low note, but together we can stop my videos being contaminated in this way. ☺ Many, many thanks, to you all.

I hope you have a great weekend, and until tomorrow, happy crafting.

JanB.

  1. Oh my goodness, there really are a lot of "no-gooders" out there, aren't there, Jan! So sorry you have been targeted again and kudos to your hubby's getting on it straight away and eliminating what he could. Sometimes wonder if it'll ever end though ... not just for you but others who are even less capable of dealing with it. LOVE THE CARD! It's perfect, even with the Candy Cane stripe looking card base!! I think it's perfect!! : -)

    1. Hi, Geraldine. Apart from any of the other implications, it's sad the only way these people can achieve their goals is by piggy-backing off someone else! I couldn't believe how quickly YouTube worked on this, thank goodness! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.

    1. Hi, Ann. I wish you every success at your craft fair today. I don't make things to sell but I sell the products I've made for videos, classes, etc. Maybe that's how I survive! Have a great day! ☺ Happy selling! JanB.

    1. Hi, Pearl. You're right, it isn't nice at all but like you, I'm so pleased YouTube were on it so quickly! On a much happier note, I'm pleased you like my sense of humour! LOL! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.

  5. I smiled that the gingerbread man just keeps smiling even though he's being eaten away. Such a pleasant gingerbread man.

As for your internet problems do you think it related to the guy who took credit for all your how-to videos? Very odd.

    1. Hi, Princess Judy. I think my card may have upset a few people if he looked upset, don't you? LOL! No I don't think my YouTube problems are related because there were several different names of eople who had used the same part of my name. But I did find out yesterday that another SU demo has had at least 32 of her videos hijacked! More details in today's blog! ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.
