Yesterday I decided to use the Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die again before it retires on 31st May 2016.
Although I haven't used this die very much, I've always been pleased with the results.
I decided to use the large flower from the You've Got This stamp set for my image and for my colours I chose Tip Top Taupe and Pool Party.
The size of the die is slightly too small for the standard UK A6 card size.
To work out the sizes I needed for my layers, I die cut the Hexagon Hive first.
Then I added a quarter of an inch on the height and the width to get the measurements for the Whisper White layer and then I calculated my card base size.
I didn't want a plain white background showing through the hexagon "windows" so I chose a design from the Go Wild Designer Series Paper (DSP) Stack.
I cut it a tad shorter and narrower than the die cut and adhered the two together using Tombow.
My preferred method of colouring is to use our Blender Pens with our inks.
The first colour was Pool Party for the actual flower head. I squeezed the (closed!) ink pad in the centre to get some ink onto the lid.
I have to admit that my method of painting is "quick and dirty"!
To get a look of shading, I paint just inside the black line of each section leaving the centre unpainted.
When I've finished, I go back and very quickly paint over all the white areas but making sure I go over the areas I've already painted as well - this makes those parts darker.
The sentiment is from the Wetlands Stamp Set - one of my favourites, so pleased it's staying!
Using Basic Black Archival Ink, I stamped it onto a piece of Whisper White and punched it out using the retiring Large Oval Punch.
I adhered the flower and the sentiment to the card front using Dimensionals.
I did a bunny ears bow using some retired Coastal Cabanna Ribbon and adhered it to the flower stem using a Glue Dot.
I hope you have a great relaxing weekend. Until tomorrow, happy crafting.
JanB.
hello Jan, love your card. it is so pretty. i also like coloring with ink and i use a water brush. i think it is a softer look for flowers don't you. cheers.
ReplyDeleteYes, I definitely agree with you, Pearl. Personally, I just can't get the hang of the Aqua Pens! I find using Marker Pens "neat" far to heavy. I've used the Blender Pens technique in today's video. ☺ Happy crafting, JanB.
